Once again Mahmoud Fadl presents new tunes through Piranha! Check out today's FREE song:
The rhythms of Oriental Dance have always been at the centre of master percussionist Mahmoud Fadl’s many musical activities. As a young man he accompanied the great Mona al Said and has ever since played and arranged for many distinguished dancers and conducted workshops and seminars. Piranha Records asked Mahmoud to compile a collection from his prodigious output of albums, with lovers of Oriental Dance in mind. The result is a journey through different styles, from the purely percussive to the ornately orchestral, from the dusty street corner to the plush night club, always coloured by Mahmoud’s innate innovative sense.
As a child, drummer Mahmoud Fadl was forced to leave his homeland of Nubia, located in what is now known as southern Egypt and northern Sudan. This region has one of the most unforgiving climates in the world. That was the year that Nubian life was sold upstream for hydroelectric power, the year when authorities drowned old Nubia and countless Nubian monuments and ancient historical sites in Lake Nasser, the largest artificial lake in the world. Fadl and 100,000 of his fellow Nubians were promised the world in exchange for their land, but only one promise was ever kept: the new village had the same name as the old.
From an artist with a true story to tell, his music represent an honest soul and a true rhythm. Enjoy today's free song:
